Brazilian independent studio NextFrame has unveiled Hell n' Slash, an isometric roguelike action game heading to PC. The developer describes the title as a blend of Hades with elements borrowed from Devil May Cry and God of War, though no release date has been announced yet.
Players assume the role of the Hunter, a warrior clad in black armor who wields an oversized sword and carries a crossbow. The character also has access to an iron grappling hook that can pull enemies closer during combat. The game follows roguelike conventions, with each death returning the player to the starting point while maintaining some permanent progression between runs.
The game features 100 cursed chambers spread across four distinct regions: the Ash Crypts, the Forges of Exile, the Halls of Oaths, and the Threshold. Four boss encounters await players throughout their journey, each featuring three separate phases. Between runs, players return to the Hall of Ashes, a ruined cathedral inhabited by five residents who provide context and services.
Combat is shaped by pacts sealed in wax and blood, which modify how the Hunter fights and combine in various ways to create different playstyles. A narrator character called the Maker, portrayed as a bored deity, observes from a throne in the cathedral and comments on every death the player encounters, including mocking remarks. A heavy metal soundtrack accompanies the action throughout.
Hell n' Slash is currently listed on Steam for Windows, with a trailer available on NextFrame's YouTube channel.
