Pearl Abyss has postponed the launch of Crimson Desert's upcoming Charting the Unknown DLC by two weeks. The expansion now arrives on October 29 instead of its originally scheduled October 15 release date.
The delay comes after an intense seven-month stretch during which the singleplayer RPG received a relentless cadence of free updates. Since its launch, the game has gained numerous features including new wildlife, additional treasure chests, a shotgun weapon, fresh difficulty modes, new mounts, and boss rematch encounters. The studio previously signaled in August that it would ease off the update schedule to concentrate resources on DLC development, a move that appears to have extended into the current release window.
The new launch times vary by region:
- Europe: October 29 at 22:00 UTC / 23:00 CET
- North America: October 29 at 15:00 PT / 18:00 ET
- Asia: October 30 at 7:00 KST/JST
Charting the Unknown aims to deliver substantial content additions. A promotional trailer highlighted building construction mechanics reminiscent of Skyrim's Hearthstone expansion, alongside novel traversal abilities such as running across water surfaces and mounting sharks for aquatic transportation. Features producer Mollie Taylor emphasized the construction system as a centerpiece of the DLC experience.
While the two-week postponement suggests the team is working to polish the content before release, the delay remains modest by modern industry standards. Many major titles face development cycles stretching years beyond their initial announcements. In that context, Pearl Abyss continues to maintain a brisk development pace relative to broader trends in game production, even with the extended timeline for this particular expansion.
The decision to push back the launch underscores the studio's commitment to quality over maintaining an aggressive schedule, particularly after the demanding update cycle that has characterized Crimson Desert's post-launch period.
