Bandai Namco has announced that existing owners of Elden Ring will not need to buy a full new edition to access the incoming Tarnished Edition content, as the publisher is offering the bonus items as a standalone add-on titled the Tarnished Pack.
Scheduled to launch on Friday, August 28, 2026, alongside the Nintendo Switch 2 release of the game, the Tarnished Pack will be available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. On Steam, the package is priced at $4.99, though exact regional pricing may vary depending on local currency. Players must install Update 1.17, which rolls out on August 27, to ensure compatibility before buying and downloading the add-on from their respective digital storefronts.
The add-on offers a variety of additions without requiring players to purchase the core game or the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion. Included in the pack are two brand-new starting classes—the Heavy Knight and the Idus Knight—alongside four armor sets, new weapons, three Torrent cosmetic options, and two additional NPC invasion events. Most of these additions can be integrated directly into active save files without forcing players to restart their adventure.
Selecting either the Heavy Knight or the Idus Knight requires starting a fresh playthrough, as these serve specifically as initial character archetypes. However, all other content remains accessible within pre-existing save files. The four new armor sets and additional weapons can be discovered while exploring the Lands Between or bought directly from in-game merchants, though precise locations have not yet been disclosed.
For mount customization, three new Spectral Steed Attires for Torrent can be located in designated areas: the Tree Sentinel attire in Stormveil Castle, the Silver of Caria attire in Liurnia of the Lakes, and the Funereal Night attire in Altus Plateau. Once collected, players can equip these skins at any Site of Grace. Meanwhile, the two NPC invasion events are located in Caelid and Leyndell, Royal Capital. Players should note that the Leyndell invasion cannot be triggered if their save file has already advanced to the point where Leyndell becomes the Ashen Capital.
