A collaborative LEGO and PlayStation set officially became available on October 4, bringing the iconic 1994 console to life in brick form. The set comprises 1,911 pieces and recreates the original PlayStation console and controller at a 1:1 scale, capturing the distinctive design of the era.
The build is fully functional in several ways. The Power and Open buttons on the console can be pressed, with the Open button triggering the disc cover to swing open and reveal the interior. The assembly process takes approximately four and a half hours and involves 14 numbered bags, a sticker sheet, two bonus accessories, and an instruction booklet. The construction proves manageable despite the finished product featuring multiple moving parts.
Two hidden dioramas add significant replay value to the set. A Gran Turismo-themed display includes miniature racing cars and a micro track, while an Ape Escape diorama showcases an island setting complete with monkeys and a banana tree. Both dioramas can be removed from the console and displayed independently.
The set's standout quality lies in its accuracy to the original hardware. Every element—from the color palette and overall silhouette to the intricate details of the controller buttons and console body—closely mirrors the authentic PlayStation design. The attention to detail extends throughout the build, making it an appealing option for those seeking to reconnect with memories of the original console's era.
