Actor Charlie Cox has disclosed that he is working on a mystery Sega video game project, marking his second venture into gaming after voicing a character in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 last year.
Cox revealed the news while speaking at New York Comic-Con, explaining that the Sega title remains unnamed and has not yet been released. He described the recording process as demanding, noting he spent approximately 40 hours in the booth capturing dialogue for his character. This represents a significant increase in workload compared to his previous gaming role, where he spent just four hours recording lines for Gustave in Expedition 33.
The actor added an amusing detail about the casting process, mentioning that the developers had originally envisioned the character as American. Cox, who is British, found himself tasked with performing 40 hours of unprepared dialogue in an American accent. He characterized the experience as challenging, emphasizing that voice acting for games differs substantially from traditional film and television work.
Cox's initial foray into gaming with Expedition 33 caught him somewhat off guard. He has previously admitted to feeling like an outsider in the industry, having limited personal experience with video games before taking on the Gustave role. The unexpected success and popularity of Expedition 33 thrust his performance into the spotlight, an outcome he did not anticipate when he accepted the part.
The mystery surrounding the Sega project has already sparked speculation within gaming communities about which title Cox might be involved with. Some observers have theorized he could have a major role in Stranger Than Heaven, an upcoming release featuring an ensemble cast of recognizable names. Others have suggested Persona 6 as a possibility, given the substantial voice work required for a game of that scale. Both projects align with the timeline Cox provided and would justify the extensive recording sessions he described.
Cox's reluctance to name the specific project could indicate either that he overstepped contractual boundaries by discussing it publicly or that Sega has successfully maintained secrecy around the title. Either way, his confirmation of the Sega collaboration suggests the studio is investing in high-profile talent for an upcoming release, even if the full details remain under wraps for now.
