Fortnite OG Final Showdown Event: Start Time and Join Guide

Epic Games is bringing back a classic Fortnite moment with the OG Final Showdown live event, scheduled for August 29, 2026, at 2 PM ET. The spectacle will feature a rematch between Mecha Team Leader and The Devourer on the original Fortnite island, recreating the epic confrontation from Chapter 1 Season 9.

To participate in this limited-time event, players should launch Fortnite at least 30 minutes beforehand to avoid technical difficulties and queue delays. Epic recommends entering the OG playlist by 1:55 PM ET, giving yourself a five-minute buffer before the action begins. The company emphasizes arriving early rather than waiting until the last moment, as server congestion during live events can cause crashes and extended wait times.

Joining the event requires selecting the Fortnite OG playlist and loading into a match before the official start time. Once inside, players will notice several special conditions in place. Combat damage is completely disabled, and the Storm—the shrinking play area that normally forces players together—remains frozen for the 10 minutes leading up to the event kickoff. All participants receive a Jetpack, allowing them to explore the island freely without fear of elimination.

When the countdown reaches zero at 2 PM ET, the live event script activates and the battle between the two titans commences. During the spectacle, normal match rules do not apply, meaning players cannot engage in combat with one another. This creates a safe viewing environment where spectators can watch the confrontation unfold without being attacked. Once the Final Showdown concludes, damage systems and the Storm reactivate, returning the match to standard gameplay.

Players across different regions worldwide will experience the event simultaneously at the same UTC time, though local times vary by timezone. The event represents a significant moment for Fortnite's OG mode, which has been popular among players nostalgic for the game's earlier seasons. By recreating this memorable battle, Epic is giving both longtime players and newer audiences a chance to witness a pivotal moment in Fortnite history.
