Electronic Arts has publicly responded to the unexpected release of Iron Man gameplay footage, acknowledging the leak with a lighthearted statement that the reveal did not occur according to plan.
The leaked material, which surfaced via ResetEra on August 27, consisted of roughly two-and-a-half minutes of gameplay apparently extracted from an internal test build dated August 26. In a post on social media, EA stated the company had additional content prepared and would share it when ready.
The footage provided viewers with a glimpse of the game's mechanics, demonstrating rapid transitions between aerial and ground-based combat within what appears to be an open-world urban environment. Players can fly freely through city spaces and battlefields before seamlessly switching to on-foot combat sequences.
EA Motive's Iron Man project has experienced a notably quiet development cycle since its announcement roughly four years ago. During this period, the publisher also reportedly shelved a separate Black Panther game in development.
This marks another instance of Iron Man appearing in video games. Avalanche Studios, known for the Just Cause series, previously worked on an Iron Man title around 2012, with footage from that project also leaking recently. More recently, players encountered the character in Square Enix's 2020 Avengers game, which received a lukewarm reception compared to the publisher's subsequent Guardians of the Galaxy release.
