Grand Theft Auto 6's inaugural gameplay showcase became the year's most-watched gaming event, drawing nearly 4 million concurrent viewers as the presentation aired simultaneously across multiple streaming platforms.
According to Streams Charts data, the reveal peaked at 3,970,738 viewers spread across livestreaming services, surpassing Summer Game Fest 2026's previous record of 3.81 million. A total of 9,038 streamers broadcast reactions to Rockstar Games' Netflix presentation, generating 5.2 million hours of watched content. Twitch dominated the viewership distribution with 44 percent of total watch time, followed by YouTube at 34.8 percent and Kick at 20.2 percent.
Spanish streamer IlloJuan led individual channels with 233,520 peak viewers on his stream, setting a personal record. Other top performers included Rubius with 191,056 viewers and IShowSpeed drawing 177,887 concurrent watchers.
The 8pm UK broadcast overwhelmed both Netflix and Twitch infrastructure, with some users unable to access streams for 40 to 50 minutes. Despite the technical disruptions, the event generated over 100,000 chat messages during a three-hour monitoring window. Sentiment analysis showed roughly 65 to 72 percent of messages remained neutral, while positive reactions comprised 11 to 15 percent. Negative commentary accounted for 17 to 20 percent, with most criticism directed at the platform outages rather than the game itself. Approximately one-fifth of messages compared the reveal unfavorably to Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, with some viewers expressing frustration over pricing expectations.
Cloudflare, which manages over one-fifth of global internet traffic, documented the reveal's infrastructure impact. Netflix experienced a 16 percent global traffic increase during the Extended Look broadcast, climbing to 45 percent in the United Kingdom. Twitch averaged a 12 percent surge over three hours following the premiere, peaking at 35 percent above normal levels. YouTube saw a 39 percent traffic jump when the trailer launched at 1am. Rockstar's official website experienced the most dramatic spike, with worldwide traffic climbing 172 percent and reaching 1,210 percent in the UK.
The game launches November 19 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. This week's reveals detailed numerous gameplay changes including a revamped Wanted system, modified carjacking mechanics, a new romance feature, and an expanded game world with diverse activities.
The milestone arrives following a turbulent week that included leaked gameplay footage and ongoing employment disputes. Dozens of Rockstar North employees recently terminated by the company are pursuing legal action through employment tribunals, alleging union-busting practices.
