Final Fantasy 14 players can now access the long-awaited Beastmaster limited job, which allows Warriors of Light to capture and command creatures in battle. The process to unlock this role involves completing a specific questline and meeting certain prerequisites before you can begin taming beasts across Eorzea.
To begin your journey as a Beastmaster, head to New Gridania and locate the Excited Adventurer at coordinates X:11.8, Y:13.6. Speak with them to initiate the side quest "Strangers in the Wood." Before you can undertake this quest, you must be at least Level 50 as either a Disciple of War or Magic, and you need to have completed the main scenario quest "The Ultimate Weapon" previously.
Once you've accepted the quest, travel to Sorrel Haven in the Central Shroud. Interact with the Destination point at X:15.1, Y:18.9 to trigger a cutscene. After it concludes, speak with the Mysterious Miqo'te located at X:15.4, Y:1.0. Next, interact with Cu Sith, which stands beside the Miqo'te at the same coordinates. Feed the creature meat and use the /pet command on it. Following another cutscene, speak with J'yhuh Tia to complete the quest.
Completing "Strangers in the Wood" rewards you with the Soul of the Beastmaster, Beast Herder's Hand Axe, Beast Herder's Hoplon, Beast Herder's Coffer (Level 1), and a Cu Sith Gourd. Equip your new gear and use the Cu Sith Gourd from your inventory to prepare for the next quest, "The Wilds Call," which J'yhuh Tia will offer. Before you can summon your first beast in combat, open the Master's Bestiary from your Character Menu and assign Cu Sith to the First Battle Horn.
Taming beasts in combat requires strategy. Begin by using Gauge on a target to determine whether it can be befriended and assess your success rate. If the beast is tameable, reduce its health and then use Capture. Weakening a creature before attempting to capture it significantly improves your odds, though success is never guaranteed and you may need multiple attempts. Once you successfully form a pact with a beast, it appears in your Master's Bestiary for future use. Alternatively, you can use Kornago Gourds to form pacts with certain beasts without engaging in combat.
Beastmaster operates under several restrictions similar to the Blue Mage limited job. The role cannot be used to progress through content and cannot queue for random matching in Duty Finder. Beastmasters cannot use role actions and face restrictions on which duties they can enter. Unavailable content includes Duty Roulettes, Eureka, the Bozjan Southern Front, the Occult Crescent, Variant and Criterion Dungeons, Ultimate Raids, Stone Sky Sea, Squadron Missions, Deep Dungeons, PvP activities including duels, and the Hall of the Novice. You can only enter duties with other players if you're part of a preformed or unrestricted party.
Additional limitations include the inability to accept quests beyond Beastmaster-specific ones and those available to all classes and jobs. You also cannot assign the Beastmaster job to retainers. One advantage of the role is that Beastmasters earn increased experience from completing FATEs compared to other jobs, though they do not receive bonus experience from defeating regular enemies in the open world like Blue Mages do.
