Kim Min-chul, known as 'The Iron Wall,' has secured his fifth individual championship in the ASL after a 4-3 victory over Yoo Young-jin in the finals of Google Play ASL Season 22, held at the Lotte World Ice Rink in Jamsil, Seoul. The triumph marks his return to the top of the competitive StarCraft ladder after a three-season absence from championship glory and establishes him as the first player in ASL history to win five individual titles. The victory also extends Zerg's dominance in the league, with the race now holding seven consecutive championship wins.

In a post-match interview, Kim Min-chul reflected on his mental fortitude during high-pressure matches, crediting his ability to remain unshaken by individual set losses as a key factor in his success. He noted that even when competing offline, losing a single set does not affect his psychological state, allowing him to refocus immediately on the next match. This composure has contributed to his impressive 15-match winning streak in best-of series finals.
Regarding his confidence during the championship match, Kim Min-chul revealed that his turning point came after winning Set 5 on Aiolos, though he remained cautious following a subsequent loss. He emphasized the importance of physical conditioning in his preparation, noting that he deliberately managed his sleep schedule leading up to the finals. The player also acknowledged that reaching the best-of series stage was his primary concern throughout the tournament, as he felt confident once advancing past the earlier rounds.
When asked about potential fatigue from competing against a relatively stable pool of players, Kim Min-chul denied experiencing any loss of interest, though he admitted his motivation had dipped slightly after winning four consecutive titles. He attributed his sustained longevity in the ASL to releasing pressure and allowing himself to enjoy the experience of winning.
Looking ahead to the next season, Kim Min-chul identified Park Sang-hyeon, known by his in-game name 'Jjapjae,' as the player he most closely monitors. He expressed confidence that both competitors will continue to contend for championships as long as they maintain their passion for StarCraft.
