Kim Min-chul has cemented his legacy as one of StarCraft's greatest players, securing his fifth career ASL championship title after a closely contested grand final against Yoo Young-jin. The victory marks a historic milestone, making Kim the first player in ASL history to reach five individual titles while simultaneously extending Zerg's dominance to seven consecutive championship wins.
The championship series pushed to a decisive Game 7, with Kim ultimately prevailing through superior unit control and strategic decision-making. His victory comes three seasons after he previously set a record with four consecutive titles, earning him the nickname "The Iron Wall" for his resilient play and consistency at the highest competitive level.

The early games of the series showcased Kim's ability to adapt to Yoo's varied strategies. In Game 4, with Yoo holding a 2-1 series lead, the Terran player opened with a Barracks Double expansion while Kim pursued a standard natural expansion into a macro-focused game. When Yoo pushed forward with bionic units, Kim's Mutalisk and Zergling swarm overwhelmed the attack, allowing him to seize control of Yoo's main base and equalize the series.
Game 5 demonstrated Kim's economic mastery. Yoo committed to a two-Starport Wraith strategy to harass Zerg, but Kim minimized damage while securing three gas bases. By establishing superior economic control, Kim leveraged his gas advantage to position Mutalisks and Scourges that damaged Yoo's rear expansion, then transitioned into Hydralisk and Lurker attacks to reach match point at 3-2.
Yoo refused to surrender, responding with an unconventional No-Barracks Double expansion in Game 6 on Odyssey. Kim greedily pursued three Hatcheries instead of playing defensively, but Yoo's disciplined execution of a fast Marine, Medic, Tank, and Valkyrie push overwhelmed Zerg before reaching Hive technology, forcing a Game 7 showdown.
The deciding game on Attitude proved to be a masterclass in scouting and adaptation. Yoo opened with an eight Barracks all-in build, but Kim's Overlord discovered the strategy through vertical scouting before traditional Drone reconnaissance could confirm it. Kim immediately pulled Drones to defend, nearly negating Yoo's bunker rush and forcing the Terran player to pull SCVs in desperation, severely delaying his natural expansion.
With momentum firmly in his favor, Kim transitioned to Lair technology while Yoo stabilized through careful positioning and Science Vessel play. The mid-game became a battle of resource denial, with Yoo attempting to delay Kim's fourth gas expansion while hunting Lurkers and Defilers. Kim ultimately broke through by deploying Defilers to hold the line and using Plague to eliminate Yoo's Science Vessels, creating the opening needed to transition into Ultralisks. The Ultralisk army proved decisive, allowing Kim to reverse the supply count and secure victory.
