Chaos Zero Nightmare is entering its second year with a substantial content update and celebration plan. Developer Super Creative announced the milestone through a special broadcast featuring newly appointed Producer Choi Seung-hyun and Development Director Kim Ki-beom, revealing Season 5, system overhauls, and the game's first multiplayer experience.
Season 5, titled "A Promise Upon the Snow," shifts the narrative focus toward the game's pantheon of gods. The season takes place on the polar planet Nivalis, where the ark Frontnova has crashed and spawned multiple instances of Chaos, including the new seasonal challenge "Celestial Bulwark." Players will confront the seasonal boss Agent of Judgment, Waltraute, who receives a dedicated theme song and cinematic cut-ins. A special story unlocks when players enter Unidentified Areas with Holy Crusade Agents.
Three new Agents join the roster, with Rossweisse arriving first on October 21 as the 1st anniversary seasonal character. A Justice-attribute Striker chosen by the Goddess of Cycles, Rossweisse's design incorporates five directional colors representing Yin-Yang and the Five Elements, along with a weapon inspired by the Four Tigers Sword. Her combat revolves around a new "Light and Dark" keyword system where cards split into two types in hand, triggering effects based on card usage by herself and allies. When only Light and Dark cards remain, they combine into a single powerful finisher. Blazebell, the first Agent from the Sileima faction, is a Justice-attribute Controller using fire abilities and supporting gameplay through "Binding" and "Purity" keywords. Dahlia, the third new Agent, also employs Binding mechanics to combine cards with different effects into heavy-hitting attacks.
Quality-of-life improvements address long-standing player requests. The Great Rift endgame mode splits into two tracks: Subjugation Battle for learning boss patterns and team compositions, and Merit Battle for competitive ranking. An Action Pattern Preview Pop-up alerts players before major boss attacks or buffs, allowing tactical preparation. Partners now gain Exploration Passives that assist roguelike progression, with 4-star Partners offering 2 passives and 5-star Partners offering 3, including effects like increased Credit gains. Memory Fragment crafting becomes more flexible, letting players select main and sub-stats during creation, with a new Reconfiguration feature allowing re-rolls of enhancement values. A Battle Speed toggle addresses a frequent community request, while Challenge mode shifts to three free weekly attempts with additional attempts purchasable through Ether. Divine Inspiration in Chaos Unidentified Areas can now apply to previously inspired cards, mirroring Sorties functionality. New weekly missions offering Cores as primary rewards round out the improvements.
Cosmetic options expand significantly with Special-tier Casual Wear, a new tier replacing nearly all visual assets except Breakdown illustrations. Portraits, combat animations, SD chibis, 3D models, Ego Skill cut-ins, and Mythic Card cut-ins receive complete overhauls, while dedicated voice lines increase from 2 to 46. Rossweisse receives the first Special-tier Casual Wear. Card Skins, tested during an April Fools' event, become permanent features. The "Invitation from the Night Sky" card pack includes skins for 16 Agents, applied per Agent rather than per card, allowing flexible overlay onto desired card illustrations. Developers plan to explore themed card skins and collaborations with renowned illustrators and intellectual properties.
The 1st anniversary celebration includes an idle tycoon mode called Nightmare Dream Park, running from October 21. Players construct attractions and assign managers to grow their theme park while enjoying Agent animations and emotes. The mode rewards Crystals, growth materials, limited Agent emotes, and Divine Inspiration Selection Cores. A tied charity initiative donates a portion of virtual in-game earnings to undernourished children worldwide under players' names. All players Level 10 and above receive an Agent/Partner Selector ticket for characters Faye or Ruixiang, plus 1,600 Crystals and 70 Regular Rescues. Check-in events grant 10 Signal Amplification Anchors and 20 Rescue Anchors, with an additional 30 Signal Amplification Anchors distributed across three weeks honoring the new Producer's appointment. Daily Cafe gifts of 40 Ether run throughout the event period. First-time purchase Crystal bonuses reset, and a cumulative purchase event unlocks an additional Agent/Partner Selector. Completing the Renoa Unigram Story awards a limited 1st anniversary Renoa sticker, while commemorative Rossweisse background and sticker assets arrive via in-game mail. Livestream viewers receive a coupon code for 1,000 Crystals.
Looking ahead, Chaos Zero Nightmare introduces its first multiplayer content, "Joint Operation: Core Break," launching in December. The 2-player co-op mode supports both friend invites and random matchmaking, with gameplay using pre-built preset Agents rather than separate save data. The experience progresses through a compressed node structure compared to standard Chaos, featuring mechanics where gods modify game rules during play. Both players jointly select tactical effects, with dice rolls resolving disagreements. Developers plan to establish multiplayer as a distinct content category alongside Sorties and Seasonal Chaos, with continuous updates planned. The long-delayed Corruption system update remains postponed, as the development team determined the current build did not meet quality standards.
Offline celebrations include a 1st anniversary theme song composed by Mitsukiyo of Studio ALO with vocals by CielA, releasing October 20. Chaos Zero Nightmare participates in AGF 2026 at KINTEX in Ilsan from December 4 to 6, featuring cosplayer photo opportunities, live performances by Dobibi and CielA, and DJ sets. Collaboration cafes operate in Japan and Hongdae, South Korea from October 16 to November 15 through maidreamin, with a separate Prismlens collaboration cafe in China. Commemorative merchandise launches across South Korea, Japan, and globally, with figures of popular characters including Orlea, Diana, Heidemarie, Yuki, and Mei Lin produced through partnerships with Good Smile Company, Hobby Sakura, and AmiAmi. Season 5 and the 1st anniversary event begin October 21, with additional details shared during the "Galactic Net News" livestream on October 20.
