Capcom may be breaking its pattern by creating brand-new downloadable content for the upcoming Resident Evil Code Veronica remake, according to reports from a well-known industry leaker.
Historically, Capcom has avoided releasing DLC for its Resident Evil remakes with one exception: Resident Evil 4's Separate Ways, which expanded on Ada Wong's role in that game's story. The publisher has not developed original expansions for other remake entries. However, the Code Veronica remake appears poised to change this approach.

According to insider Dusk Golem, developer M-Two is leading work on story-focused DLC for both the upcoming Resident Evil 9 and Code Veronica. The expansions are being designed to run several hours each, drawing inspiration from Separate Ways and Shadow of Rose in terms of scope and structure. Dusk Golem has built a reputation for accurate leaks within the Resident Evil community, though they have occasionally been incorrect—sometimes due to Capcom altering plans or scrapping projects entirely.
Capcom has positioned the Code Veronica remake as a full numbered entry rather than a simple port, stating it will serve to bridge the original game's events with the modern-day storyline established in recent titles. This narrative focus opens several possibilities for what the DLC could explore.
Potential directions for the expansion include following Albert Wesker's activities during the events of Code Veronica, mirroring how Separate Ways highlighted Ada Wong's perspective. Such an expansion could show Wesker stealing viral samples and uncovering details connected to the Connections organization, which plays a central role in the current Resident Evil timeline. Another possibility involves exploring Claire Redfield's movements between Resident Evil 2 and Code Veronica, particularly her ongoing search for her brother Chris, which the remake's reveal trailer has already hinted at expanding. A third option could delve into the Ashford family's experiments and the origins of the Veronica virus itself, providing backstory on Alfred and Alexia Ashford.
The Code Veronica remake is scheduled for release in 2027 as a single-player survival horror experience. As with all industry leaks, official confirmation from Capcom remains pending, and development plans can shift. However, if accurate, this DLC would represent a notable shift in how the publisher supports its remake projects going forward.
