Microsoft's first-party gaming division generated significantly more revenue than Sony's PlayStation division in 2026, driven largely by strong multi-platform performance on PC and Steam.
According to Alinea Analytics estimates, Xbox first-party titles brought in $707.9 million across three releases, compared to PlayStation's $538.6 million from five games. This represented a $169.3 million advantage for Xbox, or approximately 31.4% higher revenue.
Forza Horizon 6 was the dominant force behind Xbox's performance, generating an estimated $570.2 million across Xbox and Steam platforms. The racing title accounted for roughly 82% of Xbox's tracked first-party revenue and alone outperformed all five of Sony's tracked first-party releases combined.
PlayStation's revenue was distributed more evenly across its lineup. Marvel's Wolverine led Sony's portfolio with $192.9 million since its launch as a PS5 exclusive, closely followed by San Diego Studio's MLB The Show 26 at $192.7 million. Other PlayStation releases included Bungie's Marathon, which generated $61 million despite a reported development budget exceeding $200 million; Housemarque's Saros at $40.4 million; and Tōkon Fighting Souls with $51.6 million.
Despite PlayStation's larger number of releases and consistent engagement from its core audience, the platform's 95 million-plus install base was insufficient to counter Forza Horizon 6's dominance. A PlayStation version of Forza Horizon 6 is expected to launch in early 2027, which could alter the competitive landscape for subsequent years.
