Apple has expanded its device insurance offerings with a new family-oriented tier designed to protect multiple devices across household members. The AppleCare One Family plan costs $50 per month and extends coverage to all eligible Apple devices owned by up to six people, marking a shift toward broader household protection compared to existing individual plans.
The family tier covers substantially more devices than Apple's current offerings. While the standard AppleCare+ plan protects a single device and AppleCare One for individuals covers three devices registered under one Apple ID, the family version encompasses all eligible products across multiple users. Eligible devices typically include most Apple products purchased within the last four years. Devices added retroactively and any new products automatically linked to family members' Apple IDs will be included under the plan.
Theft and loss protection comes with a combined annual limit of six claims across all family members, translating to one claim per person if all six slots are filled. This differs from individual plans: AppleCare+ allows two claims annually, while AppleCare One for individuals permits three. Beyond theft and loss, the family plan includes standard AppleCare+ benefits such as battery replacement at no cost, accidental damage coverage, and repairs for damaged screens and back glass.
To enroll, users must first establish Family Sharing through their device settings. This involves navigating to Settings, selecting the Apple ID section, then Family, and inviting up to five additional members. Once Family Sharing is configured, subscribers can activate the insurance through the AppleCare & Warranty section in General settings. The plan is currently available in the United States.
