Resident Evil Requiem's post-launch content will dive deeper into the story of Oswell Spencer, according to an accidental reveal by one of the game's writers. During a convention interview, writer Haris Orkin disclosed that the development team has planned an extended narrative arc for the character that will unfold across both the base game and its DLC expansion.
Orkin explained that players already encounter Spencer's story in Requiem, but the DLC will provide additional context and development. "We have an arc for Spencer in Requiem. They kind of… you understand that more and in the DLC for Requiem, you will understand it even further," he said before catching himself and acknowledging he may have revealed too much.

The disclosure aligns with earlier speculation from reliable leakers who reported that the Spencer Mansion—the iconic location from the original Resident Evil—was recreated for inclusion in Requiem but ultimately did not appear in the final release. The mansion's absence fueled theories about its potential inclusion in future DLC content. Orkin's comments suggest those theories may have merit, particularly given his emphasis on Spencer's expanded role in the expansion.
In Requiem's main campaign, Spencer appears only through archival footage. The game attempts to reframe the Umbrella founder's legacy, portraying him as someone who came to regret the destruction his organization caused. The central plot involves a search for Elpis, an antidote to the T-virus that Spencer himself created in an effort to undo the damage wrought by his company. This redemption arc represents a significant shift in how the series has previously portrayed the character.
Spencer has been deceased within the Resident Evil timeline since his death at the hands of Albert Wesker in Resident Evil 5. This fact has led fans to theorize that the DLC will be set during an earlier period, allowing for exploration of Spencer's backstory and the events that shaped his eventual change of heart. The prospect of a prequel-focused expansion has generated considerable enthusiasm among the fanbase.
Orkin also noted that the DLC remains in the writing phase, indicating that the additional content is still months away from completion. Industry estimates suggest the expansion may not release until late 2027, giving the development team substantial time to craft the narrative expansion. Requiem itself launched in February 2026 to critical acclaim and strong fan reception, establishing a solid foundation for its post-launch support.
