Rebel Wolves is moving quickly to plan its next vampire RPG installment. The studio's narrative director announced on LinkedIn that the team is actively recruiting a lead writer to help shape the sequel to The Blood of Dawnwalker, which only released days prior.
The position calls for an experienced narrative professional with at least six years of games industry experience in writing or narrative design. Rebel Wolves emphasizes they want someone with exceptional writing ability, a proven track record of excellence, and demonstrated skill in team management. The studio is seeking a lead writer who can collaborate with the existing narrative team to develop the next chapter in what appears to be an expanding saga.
The developer has already provided some direction for where the story might head. A "glimpse into the future" trailer released in June and shown at the end of the first game hints at modern-day action sequences featuring protagonist Coen confronting mysterious adversaries. According to the trailer's description, Coen's journey will span centuries and take him across the globe, far beyond the first game's Vale Sangora setting. The narrative promises new powers, fresh challenges, and ancient secrets to uncover.
The endings of the first game set up Coen to encounter other vampire factions worldwide, suggesting the sequel could follow a structure more akin to classic Assassin's Creed games—with interconnected conflicts across different eras and locations—rather than maintaining a single historical period like The Witcher series.
While the trailer suggests a potential jump to modern times, there's room for the sequel to explore different approaches. The medieval setting of the first game provided a natural backdrop for fantasy elements and high-stakes political intrigue, with the Black Death serving as a historical anchor for the narrative. A continuation set in a different medieval European city—such as Budapest, Belgrade, or Kraków—could maintain the regional folklore elements that enriched the first game's world while placing Coen in an unfamiliar urban environment rather than the rural Carpathian setting.
Alternatively, the sequel could venture further into Europe or Asia, opening possibilities for different historical crises and cultural contexts to drive the story. If Rebel Wolves opts for a time jump backward rather than forward, the ancient world or early medieval period offer untapped narrative potential, especially given that the first game only briefly explored these eras through backstory missions examining the vampire Brencis and his origins.
Regardless of the direction the new writer helps chart, the studio has established a foundation with strong thematic elements and world-building that can support expansion. The combination of vampire mythology, historical settings, and character-driven storytelling provides flexibility for the saga to evolve across different time periods and locations while maintaining narrative coherence.
