A new free browser game invites players to explore how their lives might unfold if born in a different part of the world. Called 1 in 8 Billion, the life simulation draws on real demographic data from 172 countries to randomly assign players a birthplace and set the stage for their virtual existence.
The game tracks a character's journey from birth through adulthood, presenting events, decisions, and opportunities that reflect the circumstances of their assigned nation. Rather than giving every country equal odds, the simulator weights birthplace selection according to actual population statistics, ensuring that outcomes vary meaningfully across playthroughs.

Players can adjust the simulation's speed and explore lives set in different time periods—past, present, or future. The game's core appeal lies in its ability to prompt reflection on how geography, circumstance, and chance shape personal trajectories. One playthrough might place a player in an unfamiliar environment facing unexpected hardships, while another could yield a life strikingly similar to their own.
Currently available in beta, 1 in 8 Billion requires no download and runs directly in a web browser, making it accessible to anyone with an internet connection.
