Grand Theft Auto 6 will include an absurdly detailed mechanic that lets players collect and throw bags of dog poop at non-player characters throughout Vice City.
YouTuber TGG revealed the feature after visiting Rockstar Games headquarters to play an extended preview of the game. During that session, Rob Nelson, co-studio head at Rockstar North, explained how the system works. When an NPC walks their dog on the street and the animal defecates, the character will pick up the waste using a doggy bag. Players can then attack that NPC, causing them to drop the bag. Once collected, the bag becomes a throwable item that can be hurled at other characters in the open world.
The mechanic exemplifies Rockstar's commitment to layering absurdist humor and environmental detail into GTA 6's sandbox systems. According to TGG's breakdown video, the developers emphasized that this level of thoroughness in open-world interactions represents something not previously attempted in video games. The feature fits squarely within the series' tradition of satirical, over-the-top gameplay that blends crude humor with interactive systems.
While unconventional, the dog poop mechanic reflects broader design philosophy evident in GTA 6. Rockstar has consistently prioritized world-building through small, often ridiculous interactive elements that give players freedom to engage with the environment in unexpected ways. The feature also generated enthusiasm among fans, with some YouTube commenters already joking about attempting a "dog poo bag only speedrun" of the game.
GTA 6 is scheduled to release in fall 2025 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The game will be set in an expanded version of Vice City and represents the franchise's first major entry since GTA 5 launched over a decade ago. Beyond the dog poop feature, Rockstar has revealed various other gameplay mechanics and story details during its extended look presentations, building anticipation for the title's arrival.
