Star Wars: Galactic Racer, developed by newly formed studio Fuse Games, launches October 6 across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X. The title has already garnered strong critical reception ahead of release, with Metacritic scores of 88 on PS5, 86 on Xbox Series X, and 84 on PC.
Fuse Games was founded by veteran developers who previously worked on the Burnout and Need for Speed franchises, bringing significant racing pedigree to the project. The game marks the Star Wars franchise's first major return to racing since Episode I: Racer introduced podracing gameplay decades ago.

Critics have singled out the sense of speed as the standout feature, with some comparing it favorably to early entries in the Wipeout series. Vehicle handling mechanics and the variety of event types also drew praise. Track design received recognition for blending tight underground passages with expansive outdoor environments across planets including Jakku and Crait.
The campaign employs a roguelite structure with run-based progression, earning commendation for immersive storytelling that unfolds across multiple playthroughs with fresh dialogue and narrative moments. Reviewers also highlighted deep vehicle customization, a layered build system, polished presentation, and strong Star Wars atmosphere as key strengths.
Some critics noted drawbacks, however. The limited number of planets available became repetitive across multiple runs, and several reviewers felt the roguelite framework didn't provide sufficient motivation to continue playing after completing the main campaign. Whether post-launch updates will address these concerns remains uncertain.
