Nintendo is commemorating The Legend of Zelda's 40th anniversary with a new collectible accessory line that celebrates the franchise's history, with The Wind Waker among the featured titles.
Takara Tomy has unveiled The Legend of Zelda Historical Charms+, a series of Triforce-shaped charms that represent 12 games spanning the entire Zelda timeline. The collection will debut in Japanese gachapon machines in October 2026, with each capsule priced at 300 yen, roughly $2. The accessories can serve as personal markers or keychains, offering collectors multiple ways to display them beyond simple collectibility.
The Wind Waker holds a particularly significant place in this lineup, positioned chronologically in the middle of the selected games. The cel-shaded adventure remains one of the franchise's most visually distinctive entries, instantly recognizable for its unique art direction and ocean-based world. Its inclusion alongside both the earliest Zelda titles and the series' most recent releases underscores its importance in the franchise's evolution.
The full collection spans a comprehensive history of the series:
- The Legend of Zelda
- Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link
- A Link to the Past
- Ocarina of Time
- Majora's Mask
- Twilight Princess
- Skyward Sword
- Breath of the Wild
- Link's Awakening (Switch version)
- Tears of the Kingdom
- Echoes of Wisdom
- The Wind Waker
This is not Takara Tomy's first venture into Zelda gachapon merchandise. The company previously released a similar collection in May 2017 that featured only six games and used Triforce replicas with ball-chain keychains. The original charms cost 100 yen less and measured approximately 3.5 centimeters in length, the same size as the new Historical Charms+. The updated collection expands both the game selection and the functional versatility of the accessories.

The Wind Waker charm release fits within a broader 40th anniversary celebration for the franchise. Nintendo has already announced an Ocarina of Time remake, a special Legend of Zelda-themed Switch 2 console, and new Tears of the Kingdom toys from Hasbro. These initiatives collectively represent a comprehensive look back at the series' legacy while simultaneously promoting its future.
While the Historical Charms+ collection is currently confirmed only for Japanese gachapon machines, the question of international availability remains unanswered. For now, the charms offer fans a compact way to celebrate the franchise's storied history, with Wind Waker standing as a testament to the series' willingness to reinvent itself across four decades.
