An open-source modding initiative has dramatically improved the performance of NVIDIA's DLSS 5 Neural Rendering technology on AMD Radeon graphics cards, delivering a 74% speed increase in just 24 hours.
The project's developer, Daniel, released two consecutive updates that addressed critical performance bottlenecks preventing the technology from running smoothly on AMD hardware. DLSS 5 Neural Rendering produces high-quality visuals through advanced lighting and reflection processing, but the computational demands are severe enough to significantly reduce frame rates even on NVIDIA's own GeForce cards.
The two updates came rapidly:
- Alpha 0.3.3 introduced a graphical installer and overlay settings, achieving a 23% performance improvement over earlier versions
- Alpha 0.4.0 followed hours later with an additional 42% performance gain

According to benchmarks conducted by tech reviewer Ancient Gameplays, an AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT can now run Cyberpunk 2077 at 3440x1440p resolution at 50 frames per second following the latest update. The creator indicated that further optimizations are planned.
The breakthrough undermines NVIDIA's strategy of restricting DLSS 5 and Neural Rendering to newer GPU models. Beyond enabling the technology on AMD systems, the modding community has also created methods to use DLSS 5's multi-frame generation feature on older NVIDIA graphics cards, expanding access across a wider range of hardware.
