A community-driven effort to restore The Witcher: Monster Slayer has reached a playable state, allowing fans to download the augmented reality game on Android devices nearly two years after its official shutdown.
The Witcher: Monster Slayer debuted in July 2021 as an augmented reality mobile title developed by Spokko. The game drew inspiration from the success of Pokémon Go, inviting players to explore their physical surroundings while hunting monsters from the Witcher universe. Gameplay varied based on time of day and location, with creatures sorted into ten different categories across three difficulty tiers. Despite cultivating a dedicated player base over two years, the title failed to meet commercial expectations and was discontinued on June 30, 2023.
The closure prompted fan preservation efforts that have now produced a working version available for Android download. According to the revival team, the restored build operates entirely offline and features most of the original functionality intact, with the exception of the in-game shop and multiplayer components. The project remains in alpha phase, meaning stability issues should be expected.
Prospective players should be aware of several limitations. Installation requires having previously downloaded Monster Slayer through a Google account, and the game demands between 6 and 10 gigabytes of storage space. The developers have been transparent about potential bugs and incomplete features that may emerge during gameplay.
This revival represents part of a broader trend of fan-led game preservation efforts. Recent months have seen successful community projects restore other classic titles, including full decompilations of Super Mario Galaxy and Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, as well as a functional browser-based version of Halo: Combat Evolved.

The Monster Slayer restoration demonstrates how dedicated fan communities can extend the lifespan of discontinued games when official support ends. While the revived version remains imperfect, it allows players to once again experience monster hunting as a Witcher in their own neighborhoods.
