The PlayStation Plus free Essential games lineup for September 2026 has surfaced online ahead of Sony's planned disclosure.
Prominent industry insider billbil-kun, reporting through Dealabs, unveiled the upcoming tier offerings earlier than expected. Sony traditionally reveals its monthly PlayStation Plus games on the Wednesday preceding the first Tuesday of each month, putting the official declaration on track for August 26. However, if this reliable report holds true, members can already look forward to claiming Chained Echoes, Sniper Elite: Resistance, and Wobbly Life.
The standout inclusion of the leaked trio is Chained Echoes, a critically acclaimed turn-based role-playing game designed in the spirit of classic 16-bit SNES releases like Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy 6. For gamers who plan to jump into the title when it becomes available, a narrative expansion titled Ashes of Elrant is currently available for purchase at $9.99. This DLC pack takes place prior to the base game's climax, introducing extra regions to explore, fresh enemies, and an additional playable character.
Rounding out September's leaked roster are Sniper Elite: Resistance and Wobbly Life. Originally launched in 2025 to a mixed critical response, Sniper Elite: Resistance brings third-person tactical marksmanship to the subscription service. Meanwhile, Wobbly Life caters to players seeking casual entertainment, offering an open-world sandbox centered around physics-based gameplay.
These three games will succeed an exceptionally strong August selection, which featured the open-world action title Dying Light 2, the retro-inspired sci-fi survival horror Signalis, and Big Walk, a multi-player cooperative puzzle game for up to 12 players that stands among 2026's top-rated releases. Members must claim August's offerings before they disappear on September 1.
Once the August batch rotates out on Tuesday, September 1, the September lineup will go live for all active subscribers. Beyond the Essential tier refresh, PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium members should also keep an eye on Tuesday, September 15, when a separate rotation will introduce a new selection of games while removing several existing catalog titles.
